Specialized Oral Care
Care at every stage: braces & sport, pregnancy, diabetes & reflux, and getting older
If You're a Teenager
Braces
Food traps everywhere and plaque builds fast. Brush after meals, use a floss threader or orthodontic floss picks, and a water flosser. After braces come off, white marks sometimes left behind are early decay, and they're permanent.
Energy drinks
High in sugar and acid. Sipped slowly over an hour, they're close to a worst case for teeth.
Wisdom teeth
They usually appear between about 16 and 21, and we keep an eye on them with X-rays. Not everyone needs them removed. It depends on space, angle, and whether they can be kept clean.
Sports Mouthguard
A mouthguard is worth it for any contact or ball sport. A custom-fitted guard from us fits better, breathes better, and actually gets worn.
If You're Pregnant
Keep your cleanings
Don't skip them. Hormone changes make gums more prone to inflammation and bleeding, and routine dental care is safe during pregnancy. Tell us you're expecting so we can plan around it.
Morning sickness
Don't brush straight after being sick. Stomach acid temporarily softens enamel, and brushing then scrubs it away. Rinse with water and wait about 30 minutes.
Diabetes & Acid Reflux
If you have diabetes
It runs both ways: high blood sugar makes gum disease worse, and gum inflammation makes blood sugar harder to control. Treating one helps the other. Let us know so we can set the right cleaning interval for you.
If you have reflux or heartburn
Stomach acid reaching the mouth wears enamel from the inside of the teeth, often before you notice. Don't brush right after an episode; rinse with water and wait about 30 minutes. Mention it to us and we'll keep an eye on the wear.
Getting Older
Dry mouth from medications
The most common cause by far, and it raises cavity risk more than most people expect. Bring us a list of what you take and let us know if you have dry mouth.
If cleaning is getting harder
The most common cause by far, and it raises cavity risk more than most people expect. Bring us a list of what you take. There's usually something we can do.
Decay at the gumline
Where gums have receded, the exposed root surface decays faster than enamel does. It's the most common new cavity later in life, and it's very preventable.
Dentures & partials
Clean them daily and take them out at night. Partials trap plaque against them. If you still have some of your own teeth, they need the full routine too.
