Why Would You Need to Have a Tooth Extracted?

  • Severe decay or damage that’s beyond repair

  • Advanced gum disease that has damaged the structures supporting a tooth

  • Severe tooth infection that does not respond to root canal therapy

  • A tooth crack or fracture below the gum line

What to Expect with Tooth Extraction

If you’ve never had a tooth pulled before, it’s normal to feel a little nervous. Rest assuerd, we prioritize your comfort and will walk you through every step. Using gentle, precise techniques, we’ll remove the tooth with minimal disruption to the surrounding bone and tissues. If you’re planning to replace the tooth later, we may recommend placing a bone graft at the time of extraction. This helps preserve the bone and maintain your facial structure.

Tooth Replacement Options

Once a tooth is removed, planning for a replacement is an important part of maintaining your oral health. Leaving a gap can affect more than just your smile—it can change the way you chew, speak, and how your other teeth fit together. We offer several options like dental implants, bridges, and partial dentures to help bring back your smile and keep everything working the way it should. We’ll go over your choices during your visit and help you find the one that’s right for you.

Recovering After Tooth Extraction

Make sure to follow the post-extraction care instructions we provide to promote healing and ensure a smooth recovery. We recommend refraining from smoking, drinking through a straw, spitting, or rinsing vigorously for a couple of days after your procedure to avoid dislodging the blood clot forming in the socket. Otherwise, you risk a painful complication known as dry socket.

Make sure to eat only soft foods and avoid brushing around the extraction site for a few days. If you have pain or swelling, use cold compresses and your prescribed pain-relief medications for relief. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office for guidance.
